Access Your Files Easily with Access

A few weekends ago, I was working on my business and had a moment of frustration because I wasn’t as organized as I wanted to be. So, I started out with a Word document and quickly realized that it wouldn’t provide the sorting capabilities that I needed. I went to a spreadsheet and realized that I wanted to do more than sort. I wanted to query the data and print reports. That’s when it hit me, like a bolt of lightning from the 80’s. I needed a database. So, I pulled out and dusted off Microsoft Access.

Microsoft Access is actually part of the Microsoft Office Suite, along with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Access allows you to create a system for organizing information. You can run what are called queries so that you pull information from a number of related tables in your data. The applications you can build from Access is not just limited to business. You can use Access to organize anything from your home inventory to nutrition tracking.
