This is Vanessa Collins, your Certified Digital Marketing Specialist with your Weekly Tech Tip. Some of you guys that Livestream on Facebook may have seen the notice several months ago that Facebook may have mistakenly erased some of users Live videos. The glitch caused it to delete some users’ Live videos if they tried to post them to their Story and the News Feed after finishing their broadcast. Facebook hasn’t said how many people were impacted but said that the bug was intermittent and affected a small number of all Live videos. It has since patched the bug and restored some of the videos but notified some users with an apology that their Live videos have been deleted permanently.

In an article that I read in TechCrunch, the question was raised whether Facebook is a reliable place to share and store our memories and important moments. Well, I have an answer for that. No! I love Facebook and it’s a great place to share memories. However, it is not the place to store your videos. You should download your Facebook Lives on a regular basis and repurpose that content on your blogs, to build your YouTube channel or as products in your store. Those videos are your intellectual property and it is your responsibility to keep up with them and utilized them in a profitable manner.

Downloading your Facebook Lives is easy. Go to your FB Live video, not the post. You will know you are on the right page when your video is on the left side of the page and it is taking up over half the page. Click the 3 buttons in the upper right corner and choose “Download Video.” Note, the “Save Video” will only save it in your Facebook account. So guys, let’s be careful with our intellectual property out there in what Apryl Beverly calls, the internet streets.
